Jerry, do you have any info on the shooting/murder that took place at the Golden Crown in the 80s? For the life of me I can't remember who was involved and I can't find anything on the 'net.
I just did a scan through the Toronto Star, nothing,
it's possible one of the newspapers linked through the online resources of the Guelph Library would have the story, let me know. Or any other details you might have.
It was published in the Guelph Mercury. It could have been in 1979. The restaurant was closed for two days. I think it was on a Friday night in the summer. My friend and I had just left the restaurant an hour or two before it happened.
A man walked into the Golden Crown and opened fire on one of the tables. The big front table, near the front doors. Not the buffet section. I had *thought* it was one of the Guelph Sobaras that had been killed, but I could be wrong. I do know that at least one of them was there. I didn't know they by name, but only saw them when they came to my ex-fiance's house. The rest of the men at the table I had not seen before.
Unfortunately my father passed 8 years ago, so I can't ask him about it and I have been living in the States for the past 15 years. Rather out of touch with my old Guelph friends.
Now you've got my attention. If 1979, it was the year after Frank Silvestro "died" just before Halloween.
I was 18 in '79 and had just broken up with my fiance.
I do not understand why I can't find anything on line about it. It's not like there are murders in Guelph every day.
My dad used to mumble and grumble about all this stuff because I was friends with the sons and relatives of the people in question and he didn't want me near them.
Lemme ask one of my brothers if he remembers anything. I doubt he will, but it can't hurt to ask.
